1998 Narrative
This is for your enjoyment. (School is cancelled today due to ice.)

It was the winter of 1998. I was a freshman at OU and had just finished my pledgeship to the Beta fraternity as well as completing my first set of finals in college. INOJ was the popular artist at the time and "The Norm Show" was taking Television by storm with it's creative story lines and the fine acting of Norm McDonald. The Oklahoma football team had just ended their season with a 5-6 record and the basketball team had just come off a season ending in a first round loss at the hands of none other than Indiana and coach Bob Knight. The 1998 season was 4 games underway and the Sooners were coming off a 68-64 loss at home to lowly Murray State. They were unranked and taking on the #19 team in the nation, the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Razorbacks had recently been involved in two National Title games and after losing key players like Corliss Williamson to the NBA they had reloaded with young talented players such as McDonalds All-American, Kareem Reid (who would later go on to play stints for the Harlem Globetrotters and New Orleans Hornets), three point specialist Pat Bradley, McDonalds All-American Derek Hood (who would go on to play for the Charlotte Hornets) and the high-flying freshman, Brandon Dean. Standing only 6 feet 1 inch, Dean wowed the crowd with his dunks during warm-ups, going between the legs and displaying his 40+ inch vertical leap.

Once the game started though, it would be all Sooners. In a game that featured Sooners who played below the rim, the Sooners would take apart the Hogs one three-pointer at a time. Sophomore guard Tim Hesket would hit 5 of his 10 three-point attempts and senior forward Eric Martin would connect on 5 three-pointers as well. After draining another from downtown, Martin would high-five the referee on his way back in a symbol of pure joy.

It would go down as my favorite OU basketball game during my college years!

Hopefully this Saturday history will repeat itself, and the Sooners will erase the memory of a 66-62 loss to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks by knocking off the 2007 version of the Arkansas Razorbacks!
